The Association of Cambridge Theatre Societies (“ACTS”) was born in April 2004 when the Presidents of 22 drama groups met to discuss a range of schemes which will be run under the new banner. Such an organization has been the topic of much discussion in recent years but records suggest that this is the first time an inter-society panel has met since 1993, when the long-lost United Drama Societies was operating.
The aim of ACTS is not to blur Cambridge drama into one “University Drama Society” but to serve the entire community with universally beneficial schemes in the absence of any substantial University-level support for practical aspects of drama. These include a yearly inter-society printed guide to getting involved in theatre, and comprehensive online event listings in the form of www.camdram.net. There are also plans for a directing
application pool, a combined Drama Squash for Freshers and many other initiatives – all aimed at improving communication whilst promoting the amazing diversity on offer.
